During a commemoration ceremony for the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi, Senate President Kalinda François Xavier underscored the crucial role that resilience and strong leadership have played in Rwanda’s post-genocide recovery.
The President of the Senate, along with officials, families, and friends, honoured and laid to rest 53 remaining bodies at the Cyanika Genocide Memorial, which is the final resting place for over 40 thousand Tutsi victims of the Genocide Against the Tutsi.
“Rebuilding our country requires unity, resilience, and strong leadership to overcome the legacy of divisive governance that fuelled the genocide—one rooted in racism and regionalism. Effective leadership has confronted that legacy of segregation. The United Government has established strategies and a vision that ensures all Rwandans are equal before the law, with the same values and rights in their country, “said the President of the Senate.
The President of the Senate emphasized the importance to remember the historical tragedy of the Genocide against the Tutsi that occurred in 1994, to ensure that all generations learn from our history and guard against such tragedies ever happening again.” (End)
