A memorial stone of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda unveiled in USA

Earlier today, Rwandan Community in Maine (USA) unveiled a memorial stone at the historical Deering Oaks Park in Portland to honor the victims of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda and raise awareness. The event was part of Kwibuka29.

The Guest of Honor the Minister of National Unity and Civic Engagement, Dr Jean Damascene Bizimana, emphasized how Genocide against Tutsi unfolded before International community.

Minister Bizimana underscored that the International community has the responsibility to remember these atrocities: “The primary goal is to remember the history of the genocide and prevent future genocides.” 

The Rwandan genocide occurred between 7 April and 15 July 1994 during the Rwandan Civil War. During this period of around 100 days, more than one million of Tutsi were killed by armed Hutu militias. (End)
