Celebrating Women’s Day on the frontline in Mozambique

As the world marked the International Women’s Day (IWD) on Friday, March 8, Rwandan female officers, who are part of the Rwanda Security Forces (RSF) deployed in Cabo Delgado to support Mozambican security forces against Ansar Al Sunna terrorists, joined the local communities to celebrate women’s progress.

This year’s IWD was held under the theme: “Investing in women: Accelerate progress.”

The celebrations in Mocimboa da Praia were also attended by the district administrator, Sergio Cypriano, the local police and military forces and the residents.

Sergio reminded residents that although the day recognises progress made towards gender equality, it also provides a platform to raise awareness about the challenges that women continue to face in various aspects of life.

He asked Mocimboa da Praia women to be confident, believe in themselves, and work together towards achieving social, economic, cultural and political growth. (End)
