Chamber of Deputies supports COVID-19 emergency response project

Kigali: On 17 April 2020, the Plenary Sitting of the Chamber of Deputies presided over by the Speaker Mukabalisa Donatille during the extraordinary session adopted the law approving the ratification of the financing agreement between Government of Rwanda and International Development Association relating to the credit of € 13,100,000 for COVID-19 emergency response project.

While presenting the relevance of the Draft Law to the Plenary Sitting, Dr Ndagijimana Uzziel, Minister of Finance and Planning said that the objective of the Project is to prevent, detect and respond to the threat posed by COVID-19 and strengthen national systems for public health preparedness in Rwanda.

This project comprises 4 components: the Case Detection, Confirmation and Contact Tracing; the Public Health Measures and Clinical Care Capacity; the Implementation, management and monitoring and evaluation; and finally the Contingency Emergency Response Component.

Minister of Finance and Planning added that the credit will be reimbursed at an interest rate of 0.75% over a period of thirty (32) years, after a grace period of six (6) years.

Various MPs asked questions and get answered. They also commended all the efforts made by the Government of Rwanda to fight and to slow the spread of the COVID-19. (End)
