AU to back Rwanda consolidate democracy, Malawi leader says

Lilongwe (Malawi): Malawi President also African Union (AU) Chairman Bingu Wa Mutharika said the AU will fully support Rwanda in consolidating its democracy.

Speaking upon his arrival at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) Lilongwe from the swearing-in-ceremony of President Paul Kagame of Rwanda on late Monday, President Mutharika said the AU will assist Rwanda to build its nation thereby maintaining peace and stability.

"We will definitely assist Rwanda to maintain its peace and stability which is already prevailing under the just sworn in leadership for the benefit of that country’s people," he said.

The AU chairman added that Rwanda is coming up together, healing the wounds and forgetting its past and building their nation together as one.

President Mutharika therefore urged other African nations to use the experience of Rwanda to settle their conflicts amicably in order to gain back peace and stability.
