Fleeing Rwandan Soldier, Sgt. Robert Kabera, arrested in Kampala

Ugandan security forces have arrested Sgt Major Robert Kabera after his home in Kampala was searched on suspicion of smuggling weapons into the country and was suspected of possessing a firearm, according to Ugandan media reports.

Kabera, best known as “Sergeant Robert” fled Rwanda in late 2020 after military prosecution launched investigations into defilement allegations against him over his family member. The crime was allegedly committed on 21 November 2020 in Ndera Sector, Gasabo district.

When he reached Uganda, Sergeant Robert spoke to the media, confirming his whereabouts and requesting that the country grant him asylum.

He said he escaped on November 18 with his wife, entering Ugandan territory through illegal routes along the Kagitumba border.
