Former RDB Boss, Clare Akamanzi named CEO of NBA Africa

The National Basketball Association (NBA) today named the Former RDB (Rwanda Development Board) CEO Clare Akamanzi– an accomplished business executive and international trade and investment lawyer – as CEO of NBA Africa. 

Clare Akamanzi will start her new role on January 23, 2024 and will oversee the NBA’s business and basketball development efforts in Africa. 

In this role, she will oversee the NBA’s business and basketball development efforts in Africa and will be responsible for continuing to grow the popularity of the sport, the NBA and the Basketball Africa League (BAL) across the continent. 

Clare Akamanzi is a lawyer, public administrator, businesswoman and politician, who has served as CEO of RDB since February 2017 till September this year.  

Clare has formerly worked as the Head of Strategy and Policy for President of Rwanda and has held positions including chairperson of the Board of Directors of Aviation, Travel and Logistics (ATL), a holding company that owns Rwandair, Kigali Airport, & Akagera Aviation; Chief Operating Officer (COO) Rwanda Development Board (RDB); Trade Negotiator at WTO, Geneva and Diplomat in London. 

Clare holds a Masters degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, USA and a Masters of Laws in Trade and Investment Law (Pretoria, South Africa) and a Bachelor of Law (Makerere, Uganda). (End)
