General Muhoozi laid a wreath at Kigali Genocide Memorial

Earlier today, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations and Commander of the Ugandan Land Forces, laid a wreath at Kigali Genocide Memorial in honour of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.”I’m very saddened by what happened in Rwanda in 1994, the Genocide against Tutsis. I appreciate the country’s leadership, led by His Excellency Paul Kagame, for deciding to establish this memorial so that future generations will not repeat the mistakes of their predecessors”, General Muhoozi wrote in the visitors’ book at Kigali Genocide memorial.

The memorial in the Rwandan capital Kigali is a resting place for more than 250,000 victims of the genocide in which about 1 million people, mostly Tutsi and moderate Hutu, were killed in a period of 100 days in 1994.

General Muhoozi also visited the Campaign against Genocide Museum

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni, also visited the Campaign against Genocide Museum located in the Parliamentary building, in Kigali. The museum was inaugurated in 2017 with an aim to showcase the history of Rwanda during the campaign against the genocide against the Tutsi. One of its popular monuments is a machine gun that was used by Rwanda Patriotic Army residing in the parliament building to mitigate genocidal forces.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba is in Rwanda since Monday as part of continued attempts to improve relations between Rwanda and Uganda, following his first official visit in late January 2022.

In 2017 Muhoozi, was appointed Presidential Adviser, fueling speculations he is being prepared for the presidency. He was reappointed as the Commander of the elite Special Forces Command (SFC) in December 2020. (End)
