Guests at the event

Mr Thomas Kurz, the Ambassador-designate and his wife, Andrea Roller Kurz would have been delighted to address you at their home tonight instead of me. But unfortunately timetables and time zones where not in our favor so that he did not have the pleasure yet to hand over his credentials to H.E. the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame. Of course there are present here standing in the front row and pleased to interact with you later.

Germany has maintained diplomatic relations with Rwanda since 1962. Traditionally, there has been a close and good mutual relationship based on trust. Bilateral relations are maintained by the embassies of both countries but also through you present here tonight.

37years of partnership between Rhineland-Palatinate and Rwanda which began as an unusual attempt by two countries to reshape development policy is now an internationally recognised model of citizen-oriented, decentralised and efficient development cooperation at the local level.
