Germany hosts a conference on fighting genocide ideology and denial

The International Conference on Fighting Genocide Ideology and Denial “A case of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda” took place on March 22, 2024 at the German Parliament ahead of the 30th anniversary commemorating the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi, on Sunday April 07th, 2024. “Kwibuka30”

Ambassador of Rwanda to Germany Igor Cesar opened the journey followed by testimonials of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi and a roundtable on how to combat the Genocide denial.

There was also a brief concert of the Rwandan song artist Jules Sentora, who performed a song in Kinyarwanda.

Survivors of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi also gave a few words in a message of hope and forgiveness. Rwandan author and Chair of the association IBUKA Deutschland Judence Kayitesi sparked a light of forgiveness and hope in her speech, as well as survivor and author Sakina Denise Uwimana-Reinhardt.

The Rwandan Embassy in Germany collaborated with Ibuka Germany association to bring forward this International Conference on the fight against genocide ideology and genocide denial focusing on the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi. (End)
