Liberation is not about words but action – President Kagame

Kigali: President Kagame on Wednesday told residents that liberation is not about words, but action and encouraged them to keep playing their active role in the country’s continued transformation journey.

The Head of State was interacting with hundreds of thousands of residents from across the City of Kigali, after inaugurating the Karama Integrated Model Village, as part of activities leading up to the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of National liberation, also known as Kwibihora25, on Thursday 4th July 2019.

“Today is a day leading to our Liberation Day. This model village shows that Liberation is not simply about words, it is about action. It is an example of what we can accomplish and that we can do a lot more. You must each play your role, beginning with taking care of the home you were given. Liberation means believing that a good life is not a right only reserved for others, every Rwandan deserves it.” President Kagame said.

President Kagame also reminded the residents to stick to the real meaning of liberation while remembering those who sacrificed their lives for the country to be where it is today.

“The current phase of the liberation struggles we are in now is about achieving transformation and being the Rwandans and Africans we should be. Let us continue to remember the meaning of Liberation as well as those who were involved, both those who are with us today and those who lost their lives”. President Kagame added.

Located in Kigali Sector, Nyarugenge District, Karama Model Village is home to 240 households relocated from high risk zones around Kigali. It comprises living apartments, a secondary school, and an Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD).

The construction of the Karama Integrated model village was part of a series of the socio-economic development projects, led by the Rwanda Defense Force in partnership with local government institutions, that have been taking place across the country.

Known as Kwibohora, Liberation Day is held every year on 4 July, marking the day the Rwandan Patriotic Army ended the Genocide against the Tutsi.

Held under the theme “Together We Prosper,” this year’s celebration will be an opportunity to recommit to Rwanda’s vision for a peaceful, united, prosperous and self- reliant nation. (End)
