The Inspector General of Police (IGP), CG Felix Namuhoranye received the Minister of Interior for Central African Republic (CAR), Michel Nicaise Nassin, at the Rwanda National Police RNP General Headquarters, Kacyiru.
Minister Nassin and his delegation, which include the Director General for CAR Gendarmerie Nationale, Gen. Landry Ulrich Depot, are in Rwanda for a week-long visit to strengthen the existing cooperation in security and policing.
IGP Namuhoranye, during the bilateral meeting, said that Rwanda and CAR have had significant productive engagements of the past years and strengthened the relations between law enforcement agencies.
“Your visit today shows the will and determination to further strengthen the existing cooperation between our two law enforcement institutions,” IGP Namuhoranye said.
The Police Chief added that the cooperation continues to bear fruits in capacity building, sharing experiences and information.
“This visit provide an occasion within our existing frameworks to enhance our bilateral collaboration for the safety of the people in our two countries,” IGP Namuhoranye said.
Rwanda National Police and CAR Police signed a cooperation pact in February 2022, to work together in policing particularly in capacity development and fighting transnational organized crimes.
Minister Nassin thanked Rwanda for the support in matters of peace, operational capacity building and security in Central African Republic and ensuring security of the people of Central African Republic.
“Your support that in capacity building and operational capabilities goes hand-in-hand with ensuring and maintaining peace and security in our country, and that is highly appreciated.
It defines the meaning of the bilateral cooperation between our two institutions,” Minister Nassin said.
Rwanda, which started its peace support operations in CAR in 2014, presently maintains about 700 Police peacekeepers there.
They include three Formed Police Units (FPU) as well as the Protection Support Unit (PSU) charged with ensuring the protection of high profile government and UN officials, including the Prime Minister, the Minister of Justice, SRSG and the two deputies, and Head of MINUSCA Police Component, among others.
Currently, about 50 allied students from law enforcement agencies in Central African Republic (CAR), are taking part in the ongoing 12th intake of the Basic Special Forces Course at the Counter Terrorism Training Centre (CTTC) Mayange in Bugesera District. (End)
