Mr. Mohcine Jazouli, Minister Delegate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, represented Morocco at the 37th session of the Executive Council of the African Union, held on 13th October 2020 by videoconference.
Speaking on this occasion during the debate on the Covid-19 pandemic in Africa, Mr. Jazouli recalled that His Majesty King Mohammed VI, faithful to his permanent African commitment, had given His Very High Instructions, in June 2020, for the delivery of medical aid to more than 20 African countries.
Mr. Jazouli stressed that “African countries must find synergies between their economies and develop complementarities” because “after the time of emergency, comes the time for recovery.
He recalled that the African Continental Free Trade Area is a unifying project, a generator of shared growth and inclusive co-development. In this perspective, “the African Union must play the role of catalyst in order to strengthen intra-African solidarity”.
Mr. Jazouli also stressed the importance of the digital and technological component for the future of African economies.
He concluded that the pandemic calls for more consultation and pooling of efforts around the common values of solidarity and sharing in order to achieve the aspirations of “the Africa we want”.
