Kigali: A consignment of alcohol and marijuana worth Rwf 30million were on Thursday incinerated by police and Kigali city officials – in a campaign they said will not end to keep banned substances from the country’s towns.
Weighting about 900kg, the substances included a spirit of the type Rwanda has outlawed, marijuana, and local brew know as ‘Kanyanga’ – all of which education officials say are becoming common among students.Kigali city Mayor Aisa Kirabo Kakira, along with Police Spt. John Wamangu said the substances came from Uganda – an accusation that has become common.
When president Kagame was touring the eastern province last week, the same accusation surfaced, as officials blamed increasing delinquency on the drugs.
In a related development, local officials in the eastern province district of Kagitumba also announced they had nabbed people with similar items.
