Kigali: Rwanda Correctional Services officials have announced they have managed to minimise the issue of transporting inmates and its staff in various places thanks to new and modern vehicles they have acquired over the last three years.

Moving around the country, one can come across more vehicles with RCS brand or RCS inmates van while others have no brand and they ferry RCS staff.

According to SSP Camille Gatete, the head logistics division the vehicles were purchased to address issue of transporting inmates which he said were not effective.

He said that RCS has gone far to address issues of logistics especially in transport. Officials said that 15 prisons have acquired vehicles which have eased work as it has improved on transport of inmates.

Over 38million was spent to purchase RCS vans that are used in transport for both inmates as well staff.

"Previously we had limited means and inmates who could go to courts, hospitals or elsewhere  were overcrowded and mixed with inmates but now inmates sit in their side while inmates are also transported separately but in a comfortable manner, inmates have no problem whenever it rains or during sunny period thanks to new vans," said SSP Gatete.
