Ngoma: Woman held for assaulting husband

Kigali: A 37-year-old woman in Ngoma District was arrested for allegedly assaulting her husband and causing serious bodily harm.

Dative Mukangenera, a resident of Jarama Sector, Ihanika Cell in Kamapfizi Village was handed over to Rwanda Investigation Bureau in Jarama.

The husband, who was severely injured on the leg with a machete, was also taken to Jarama health center for medical attention.

According to the Eastern region Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP), Hamdun Twizeyimana, the suspect was restrained by residents, who intervened to save the victim, and handed over to security officers on routine operations.

“Neighboring residents heard the jeering and shouts from the home of the couple and quickly responded before calling security which was nearby,” said CIP Twizeyimana.

He condemned the bloody act, adding that such family conflicts also cause serious psychological effects on young children.

The spokesperson said though women and young girls are most at risk of emotional and physical abuse, female partners assaulting men is equally prevalent.

The victim claimed he and the wife had a turbulent marriage but he was always willing to resolve their issues.

CIP Twizeyimana thanked the residents for the act of neighborhood watch to save the victim, and advised married couples to endeavor to resolve their difference amicably or follow the available social and legal channels to settle any disagreements. (End)
