Nyaruguru: remains of 333 Genocide victims laid to rest in Munini memorial site

Remains of 333 bodies of victims of the 1994 genocide against the tutsi were laid to rest in Munini genocide memorial site in Munini Sector, Nyaruguru District. Munini genocide Memorial is the final resting place to more than 13000 genocide victims.

Among those buried today, 285 bodies were recovered in Busanze Sector where they were recovered in a plot where the District was building a school.

In the testimonies given by Emmanuel Munyankindi, he recalled the hardships he passed through during the genocide in 1994 until he reached to Burundi, from where he joined the former RPA-Inkotanyi to help with them to stop the genocide and liberate the country.

Different speakers reiterated on the role played by Damien Biniga, Sub prefect of Munini Sub prefecture during the genocide. He intercepted the Tutsi who were trying to flee to Burundi and took them to the offices of the sub prefecture to kill them.

Bertin Muhizi, president of IBUKA in Nyaruguru District said that commemoration is a source for the strengths to build the country and urged the survivors not to let them bound by grief.

CG Emmanuel Gasana, Governor of the Southern Province who was the guest of honour thanked the survivors saying that too much is requested from them and they give much to in building the unity of Rwandans where they forgive those who killed their relatives.

He urged the youth to draw lessons from the lecture and testimonies given during commemoration events and fight divisionism. (End)
