Kigali: Mr. Charles Kabonero, the publisher of UMUSESO has dismissed claims that he has fled the country revealing for the first time that he is on a study program in South Africa, RNA reports.

He accuses FOCUS newspaper – the original source of the story about his fate in May and RNA, of propagating rumours aimed at frightening him not return. “I am in South Africa studying from a known institution with knowledge of everybody”, he writes in the latest issue of UMUSESO, but does not mention the institution.

He left the country on May 24 and affirms he has never asked for asylum, adding: “I actually have never had such plans”.

The controversial weekly due for possible suspension over allegedly insulting the person of the President is not bothered, publishing its latest issue unhindered.

The government leaning High Council of the Media recommended to the Information Minister Louise Mushikiwabo last week that the paper be put off the market for three months. The paper’s reigning editor on the ground in Kigali Mr. Didas Gasana said they would take the Minister to court if she proceeded with suspending their publication.

The copy issue in question ran a lengthy front-page article comparing the administration of President Kagame and his deceased predecessor Juvenal Habyarimana. The author affirms that President Kagame has not made any significant developments, while detailing several of Habyarimana’s successes.

In the latest issue, UMUSESO explains how Finance Minister James Musoni has plotted for tycoon Tribert Rujugiro – who is a senior ruling party executive. The paper also runs an apparent analysis of a comment by President Kagame suggesting that former monarch Kigeli is persona non grata in Rwanda.

UMUSESO also publishes another long piece asking ‘where there administration of President Kagame is taking the country’. The writers also have another article giving the six ‘most loved’ people in the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF).

However, it names them in descending order as Army chief General James Kabarebe, new Education Minister Dr. Charles Murigande, senior presidential aide Emmanuel Ndahiro, Ombudsman Tito Rutaremara, Health Minister Dr. Richard Sezibera and President Paul Kagame.
