Kigali: President Paul Kagame is scheduled to be in London Thursday to deliver the 2010 Oppenheimer Lecture at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), Village Urugwiro said.
After speaking at the London-based institute, President Kagame will join a list of global leaders who have delivered the annual Oppenheimer Lecture including former US President George W. Bush and Liberia leader Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.
Mr. Kagame will be speaking September 16 at exactly 12pm (13pm Rwandan time). The lecture will be streamed live on the IISS website (www.iiss.org).
There was no indication as to whether President Kagame will have any official encounters with British government officials – at a time when UK aid to Rwanda is said to be under review over human rights concerns.
From London, President Kagame heads to New York for the UN General Assembly on the MDGs due for September 20-22. The President co-chairs the UN panel on the MDGs with the Spanish PM José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.
In New York, as has been reported, President Kagame will continue his offensive against the leaked UN report alleging his troops committed “Genocide” in DR Congo against Rwandan refugees.
