President Hichilema pays respects to the victims of Genocide at Kigali Genocide Memorial

Kigali Genocide Memorial welcomed today the President of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema who came to pay respects to the victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi.

On his visit, President Hakainde Hichilema was accompanied by the Minister of State for East African Community Affairs in the Rwandan Cabinet  Manasseh Nshuti. 

They visited different parties of kigali genocide memorial and received explanation on how the Genocide was prepared and put into action.

President Hakainde laid a wreath on the burial place where more than 250,000 victims of the Genocide are laid to rest. He also observed a minute of silence in honour of more than one million victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

At the end of his visit, President Hakainde Hichilema wrote his heartfelt message in the memorial guestbook.

“Deeply moved by our visit to Kigali Genocide Memorial where we laid wreaths to honour 250,000 lives lost here. This tragedy’s a stark reminder that dialogue is the path to peace.  Rwanda’s resilience fuels our hope as we strive for peace & unity ” He wrote.

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema arrived yesterday in Kigali for a two-day state visit at the invitation of his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame. (End)
