President Paul Kagame held bilateral talks with his Mozambican counterpart Filipe Nyusi on Thursday January 25th 2024 in Kigali.

“Last evening in Kigali, President Kagame received President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique for a discussion on ways to further strengthen the existing productive bilateral cooperation in various areas of mutual interest”,  the Rwandan State house said this Friday.

The two countries enjoy commendable bilateral relations with cooperation agreements in areas pertaining to agriculture, air transport and security that include military operations in Mozambique’s province of Cabo Delgado where their armed forces fight against Islamic State-linked terrorists.

Rwanda deployed army and police personnel to Cabo Delgado in July 2021 at the request of the Government of Mozambique, and currently has around 2,500 troops engaged in joint operations with Mozambican forces. Additional troops are being deployed in areas that have experienced new terrorist attacks.

The joint force has dislodged insurgents from their strongholds, allowing civilians to return to their homes, and also collaborated with SADC’s SAMIM force to pursue terrorists in other sectors. (End)
