President Kagame has arrived in Davos, Switzerland where he is taking part in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2024, joining global leaders to address pressing world issues.
The 54th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting gathers over 2,000 leaders and experts committed to global improvement. This year’s theme, “Rebuilding Trust,” emphasizes transparency, consistency, and accountability as key drivers in establishing trust.
Today, President Kagame, alongside President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana and Vice President Kashim Shettima of Nigeria, will speak at “Timbuktoo: Unleashing Africa’s Start-up Revolution.” Timbuktoo is a UNDP initiative that aims to bolster the African start-up landscape, with Rwanda hosting both the Timbuktoo headquarters and the Timbuktoo Africa Innovation Fund.
This morning, President Kagame joined other world leaders for the Welcoming Remarks and Special Address session. Chaired by Klaus Schwab, World Economic Forum Founder and Executive Chairman, the session included remarks by Viola Amherd, President of the Swiss Confederation 2024 and Federal Councilor of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports, and special addresses by Li Qiang, Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of China and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
Tomorrow, President Kagame will participate in a session on “driving action under the AfCFTA” to discuss the progress made in the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The meeting will conclude with a comprehensive assessment of AfCFTA’s implementation and its future trajectory.
The President, together with other global Heads of State and Government, as well as leaders of international organizations will discuss the North-South Schism, assessing how the two geopolitical regions can recalibrate cooperation to deliver win-win solutions to most pressing issues rather than exacerbating them.
