President Nyusi visit Mocimboa da Praia liberated by Rwanda and Mozambique Security Forces

Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, the President of Mozambique, visited Mocimboa da Praia city. On arrival, he was welcomed by the Mozambican officials including Esperança Bias, the Parliament President, Mr. Mateus Magala, the transportation minister, Valige Tauabo, the Governor of Cabo Delgado Province and key leaders of the district. Also, the event was attended by the Rwanda Security Force Commander Maj Gen A Kagame.

The purpose of the visit was to inaugurate the infrastructure of the Airport and Seaport of Mocimboa da Praia city that had been the headquarters of the Al Suna WAJAMA-linked Islamic State in Cabo Delgado Province since 2017. 

Mocimboa da Praia city was liberated by Rwanda, and Mozambique Security Forces on Sunday 8 August 2022. The city had been under the control of terrorists affiliated to the “Islamic State” (ISIS) network for 5 years and today the population is enjoying peace and tranquillity.  

The President Nyusi proceeded to Mocimboa stadium to address the population who returned to their homes after many years in IDP camps. 

In a message conveyed to the population, he commended the great work done by the Rwandan Security Force in fighting terrorism and restoring peace in Mozambique.

While meeting the population of Mocimboa da Praia, he gave them 2 caterpillar machines to help in agricultural projects. He further assured the public of government support in maintaining the status quo. The President concluded by calling on terrorists to turn themselves in and rebuild their county. (End)
