IRMCT Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz has successfully completed an official visit to Mozambique, a member of the Security Council.

Prosecutor Brammertz met with the Vice-Attorney General, Dr. Alberto Paulo, to thank his office for its effective cooperation in the tracking of fugitive Fulgence Kayishema, who was arrested in neighbouring South Africa in 2023.

IRMCT Chief Prosecutor Brammertz also met with the UN country team and participated in a capacity-building seminar for local prosecutors.

One of the world’s most wanted genocide suspect, Fulgence Kayishema was a fugitive for more than twenty years.

He  was arrested in Paarl, South Africa in a joint operation by the IRMCT Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) Fugitive Tracking Team and South African authorities.

The thorough investigation that led to this arrest was made possible through the support and cooperation of South Africa and other African countries, notably the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Republic of Mozambique. (End)
