RDF explains Rwanda-DRC border incident

The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) released a statement on clashes between DRC and Rwanda armed forces reported in Kibumba, North Kivu Province, in DRC yesterday on 18 October.

RDF says that on 18 Oct 2021, Rwanda security forces pursued smugglers who crossed the Rwanda-DRC border at Hehu Cell, Bugeshi Sector, Rubavu District.

“Rwandan law enforcement forces unintentionally crossed a few meters into the DRC while pursuing the smugglers who were carrying unidentified packages and believed to have been armed”, says RDF in the statement.

“The RDF and FARDC maintain good relations and continue to collaborate on security matters”, according  to the RDFs statement.

Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) said that members of the Rwandan Defence Forces (RDF) made an incursion into D.R.C. Oct. 18.

The RDF reportedly entered the locality of Kibumba, North Kivu Province. Clashes ensued with the FARDC, before the RDF eventually returned to Rwanda. As of Oct. 19 the situation in the area is calm. (End).
