RPF Secretary General Wellars Gasamagera
The ruling Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF-Inkotanyi) kicks off its party primaries this Saturday, February 24, an exercise that will see them elect party flag bearers for the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections slated for July 15.
Wellars Gasamagera the party Secretary General announced the development on Friday, February 23, during a news conference at the headquarters in Rusororo, Gasabo District.
The three-week exercise, Hon. Gasamagera said, will be extended to party members across the country from the grass root level up to the national level.
“We are optimistic that the process will run smoothly as it has always been. We also hope for a good turn up throughout the exercise,” Hon. Gasamagera said.
Asked about the agenda for the next mandate, he maintained that the party will hold its congress during which it will announce the party representatives but also unveil the party manifesto for the coming five-year term.
“This is an institutional activity which we expect to announce in April (2024) during the party congress. It will also be time for us to celebrate the achievements that have been gained in the past mandate.”
Abdallah Utumatwishima, the RPF commissioner in charge of political mass mobilization said that the party will be looking for candidates with the capacity to implement the party’s manifesto for Rwandans.
“We therefore call upon cadres to take the exercise with the deserved seriousness.”
The upcoming elections will be jointly held following the merger of the presidential and parliamentary polls through the amendment of the national electoral law. (End)
