Rwanda today joins the rest of the Commonwealth Member Countries to celebrate the annual Commonwealth Day.
A flag-raising ceremony took place at the Kigali Convention Centre as a traditional part of the day and a demonstration of the connection between the member states.
Rwanda joined the Commonwealth in 2009. Upon hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, also known as CHOGM 2022, Rwanda will also take the Chair-in-Office role for the next 2 years as required by the Commonwealth.
Commonwealth Day is an annual celebration observed by people all over the Commonwealth in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe.
Commonwealth Day 2022 is celebrated this Monday 14 March, with a service held at Westminster Abbey. The theme for Commonwealth Day 2022 centres around the theme for the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting – ‘Delivering a Common Future’ – which highlights how the 54 member countries in the Commonwealth family are ‘innovating, connecting and transforming’ to help achieve goals like fighting climate change, promoting good governance and boosting trade.
Given that 2022 is the Queen’s Jubilee Year, there is also a special focus this year on the role service plays in the lives of people and communities across the Commonwealth.(End)
