
From 19 to 23 May 2025, the Parliament of Rwanda is hosting the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Gender Sensitization Workshop, bringing together women Members of Parliament (MPs) from across Africa under the theme: “Promoting Gender Equality and Empowering Women in Africa.”
In her opening remarks, Speaker Kazarwa Gertrude declared that gender equality requires, first and foremost, an unwavering political will.
“Once the enabling political framework is in place, mechanisms and appropriate gender responsive legislation have to be followed to address the systemic barriers and ensure that women actively participate in all aspects of countries life.” Speaker Kazarwa expressed.
The Chairperson of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Africa Region, Hon. Ndangiza Madina, said, “this gathering is more than just a meeting of women parliamentarians; it is a clear reflection of our shared commitment to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Participants will engage in dialogue, peer learning, and capacity building to enhance their effectiveness as legislators and agents of change.
Throughout the workshop, Women parliamentarians are due to share experiences, strengthen collaboration, and promote gender-responsive governance.
The workshop also provides an opportunity to share experiences, strengthen regional collaboration, and promote gender-responsive governance in line with continental and global development goals.
As a nation recognized for its leadership in women’s representation, Rwanda is honored to host this vital forum, reaffirming its continued commitment to inclusive leadership and equitable development across Africa. (End
