“Rwanda is absolutely ready to organize the CHOGM Summit” – Patricia Scotland

President Kagame received this morning in his offices in Village Urugwiro the Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland who confirmed that Rwanda is ready to host the Commonwealth Summit in Kigali. 

“We are committed to hosting the Commonwealth Summit here in Kigali, despite previous postponements due to the outbreak of COVID-19 around the world. Our goal is that we will hold the Summit here in Kigali. The members of the Task Force that prepares the Summit monitor the preparations on a daily basis. They say that Rwandans are working with joy and enthusiasm for the holding of the Summit,”Scotland said.

The Commonwealth has 54 member countries and 2.4 billion inhabitants, 60% of whom are young people under the age of 30. 

The Commonwealth’s goal is to find responses to climate change, promote gender, and expand trade in countries speaking English as a working language.  

It is estimated that seven to ten thousand participants will attend the Commonwealth Summit in June 2021. Note that this Thursday also in the morning, the Secretary General of the Commonwealth was also received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Vincent Biruta. Their talks focused on global issues, COVD-19 strategies, and climate change. (End)
