Rwanda summons 27 for Mozambique, Cameroon AFCON ties

Kigali: The Rwanda Men’s senior team head coach Mashami Vincent has summoned a 27-man team to start preparations ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Group F double qualifying ties against Mozambique and Cameroon due this month.

Rwanda plays Mozambique away in Maputo on November 14 before hosting hosts Cameroon in Kigali on November 17, 2019.

On Wednesday, the summoned 27-man provisional squad include 11 foreign-based players who include goal keeper Emery Mvuyekure (Tusker FC, Kenya), Bayisenge Emery (Saif Sporting Club, Bangladesh) and Rwatubyaye Abdul (Colorado Rapids, USA).

Others include Nirisarike Salomon (Pyunik FC, Armenie), Niyonzima Ally (Oman), Muhire Kevin (Misr El Makkasa, Egypt), Bizimana Djihad (Waasland Beveren, Belgium), Kagere Meddie (Simba SC, Tanzania), Tuyisenge Jacques (Pétro Atletico, Angola), Hakizimana Muhadjiri (Emirates Club, UAE) and Sibomana Patrick (Young Africans, Tanzania).

Following failed past campaigns, for Rwanda to compete at the 2021 edition, Amavubi has to stage impressive performances to at least finish on top of the standings to guarantee their safe passage to the second continental appearance.

Rwanda last participated at the 2004 competition but got eliminated in the group stage after losing one match to Tunisia; drew one match against Guinea and defeated DR Congo. (End)
