Rwanda to become the first African country to host the FIA awards in 2024

Rwanda to become the first African country to host the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Annual General Assembly week and Prize Giving Gala in December 2024.

“Exciting news! Rwanda will be hosting the prestigious 2024 FIA General Assemblies and Prize Giving. A true testament to our nation’s capabilities and the strong bonds with the FIA Family. Get ready for an unforgettable event!”, reacts Rwanda Automobile Club via twitter.

The FIA held its 2023 Prize Gala in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Friday December 08, and plans a trip to Kigali, Rwanda, next year on 13 December 2024.

This year’s event was staged in Baku, Azerbaijan, a city that has hosted a Formula 1 Grand Prix annually since 2016. Kigali was confirmed as host city for 2024 during the 2023 FIA Annual General Assemblies in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Prize Gala is an annual event that marks the official end of all the FIA’s world championships. That includes Formula 1, and so it is where Max Verstappen receives the trophy for his third title.

Rwanda Automobile Club and City of Kigali will host the 2024 FIA Prize Giving. The evening will honour champions from every major branch of international motor sport.

The aim of this celebration is not merely to highlight the champions of today, but also to highlight the stars of tomorrow. It will also be an opportunity to thank all the people who have made it possible to stage such a diversity of events in 2023 – the volunteers and officials and FIA Member Clubs.

Two FIA General Assemblies meetings will take place in 2024 : the Extraordinary General Assemblies meeting will be held during the week of the FIA Conference on 14 June 2024 and will be mainly dedicated to the approval of the yearly accounts and statutory changes. The meeting will be hosted in the city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

The second General Assemblies meeting and the Prize Giving will be hosted in the city of Kigali, Rwanda on 13 December 2024. (End)
