Rwanda welcomes 382 returnees from the Democratic Republic of Congo

Returnees at La Corniche One Stop Border Post before proceeding to Nyarushishi Transit Centre

Today, Rwanda welcomed 382 individuals who voluntarily repatriated from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The returnees were received at La Corniche border by the Mayor of Rubavu District Prosper Mulindwa, who welcomed them home and highlighted the development opportunities awaiting their contribution to nation-building.

The returnees were officially received in Rubavu District by Mayor Prosper Mulindwa

They will be temporarily accommodated at the Nyarushishi Transit Centre for registration and repatriation procedures, with all arrangements in place to ensure a safe and dignified return.

The Government has established comprehensive reintegration programs to support the sustainable settlement of returnees, including access to education for children, healthcare coverage and other services that foster social cohesion with other communities.

Working together, the Government and UNHCR support returnees’ reintegration, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

The development fulfils commitments made during the Tripartite High-Level Meeting in Addis Ababa on July 24, 2025, between Rwanda, the DRC, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). (End)
