Rwandan and Gambian ministers of Defence meet to strengthen relations

Kigali: Sheikh Omar Faye, Minister of Defence of the Gambia is visiting the Rwanda Ministry of Defence from 18-23 Nov 19.The purpose of his visit is to learn from Rwanda about the structure, challenges and best practices from the Rwanda MoD, with a view to successfully implement their own restructuring and security sector reform processes.

After a presentation on the functioning of the Ministry of Defence, Sheikh Omar Faye and his delegation met Hon Maj Gen Albert Murasira, Minister of Defence of Rwanda and their talks was focused on how to enhance bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and the Gambia.

“Rwanda has been a friend of The Gambia from day one and we applaud the leadership of the President Kagame and President Barrow in the African spirit of Unity. Basically this is why we are here. The way forward is to build very strong cooperation. Maybe have our people come here to do training, also have your people to come to The Gambia to see where we are to strengthen the capacity of our people in terms of defence and other areas” he said after meeting with Rwanda Defence Minister.

Sheikh Omar Faye has recently been appointed Minister of Defence by the President of the Gambia, a position that was under the presidency for decades. He is accompanied by his PS and other two members of the staff.

He extended greetings of Adama Barrow the President of the Gambia to the President of Rwanda. (End)
