Rwanda’s Police Chief receives EASF Director

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) CG Felix Namuhoranye, on Wednesday March 27, received Brig Gen (rtd) Paul Kahuria Njema, the Director of Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Secretariat, and his delegation, at the Rwanda Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters, Kacyiru.

CG Namuhoranye and Kahuria discussed ways of strengthening the existing cooperation between Rwanda National Police and the EASF to achieve its mandate.

The Police Chief pledged the RNP’s commitment to support the EASF to achieve its mandate. He said that the RNP is always ready to deploy when called.

The EASF is one of the five regional multidimensional forces of the African Standby Force (ASF) consisting of Military, Police and Civilian components that are always on standby for rapid deployment.

The ten-member regional bloc was established to enhance peace and security in the Eastern Africa region. It is mandated to provide capability for rapid deployment of forces to carry out preventive deployment, rapid intervention, peace support, stability operations and peace enforcement.  

Rwanda pledged Police, military and civilian personnel as well as logistics to the regional body, composed of 10 active members, namely; Rwanda, Burundi, Seychelles, Djibouti, Kenya, Comoros, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda. (End)
