Kigali: A delegation of senior officials from South African ruling African National Congress (ANC) is in the country for a working visit, at their invitation of their Rwandan counterparts, RPF-Inkotanyi.
Led by the Secretary General of the party, Ace Magashule, the delegation is in the country partly to participate in activities to mark the 25 anniversary of the liberation of Rwanda.
The liberation was championed by RPF-Inkotanyi after its armed wing successfully stopped the Genocide against the Tutsi and set the country towards a path to transformation.
Mogashule and their delegation were hosted to a working lunch by their RPF Secretary General Francois Ngarambe during which the two leaders reaffirmed the commitment to enhance ties for the betterment of the peoples of the two countries.
Earlier, the visiting delegation had visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial where over 250,000 victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi are buried during which they had a chance of getting to know how the Genocide was prepared among other facts on the country’s history.
The ANC top official said that what happened in Rwanda was a result of Africa’s colonisation and is a reminder that African unity is important now more than ever in order to fight for the continent’s peace and stability.
“Africa must always stay united. The struggle continues,” the official wrote in the guests’ book shortly after visiting the memorial.
He said that the genocide against the Tutsi, which claimed the lives of more than a million Rwandans, shouldn’t have happened because there is only one human race in the world and people ought to live together in harmony.
“Humanity is humanity; there is no colour, there is no race, there is no ethnicity, there is no tribalism. We are one world; we are all human beings and we must live in peace and harmony,” he told journalists from the memorial.
“It reminds us of what colonialism did to Africa. We must not forget that as Africans we must at all time stay vigilant so that we continue (the struggle) because there is counter revolution. When our countries are stable, there are those who will try and destabilise and take us further steps backwards,” he said.
On the cooperation between the two parties, Mogashule said that as two parties that led revolutions in their respective countries, there is a lot they have in common, adding that they would build on this to take their countries further.
Meanwhile Mogashule and his delegation on Monday afternoon had a tour of the new headquarters of RPF Inkotanyi which also hosts the Intare Conference Area in Rusororo and he said that he was impressed by how the project had been executed. He said he had last visited soon after construction works on the facility started. (End)
