Zambia U20 jet in ahead of Rwanda first leg qualifier

Kigali: The Zambia Under-20 Football team arrived in Kigali on Wednesday morning ahead of Saturday’s Niger 2019 Africa Cup of Nations second round qualifier against Rwanda.

Rwanda hosts defending champions Zambia in the second round’s first leg of the Niger 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on Saturday at Stade de Kigali at 15:30.

According to the Rwanda Football Association, tthe 28-man squad is comprised of Head of Delegation Lee Kawanu and Chipolopolo coach Wedson Nyirenda. Nyirenda has come with the team to offer some technical assistance in the project that Zambia FA has placed a high premium as the nation are the defending champions of the Africa Cup.

Assistant coach Charles Bwale has been drilling the lads with two friendly matches played in Malawi which Zambia won 1-0 and 2-1 against the host country and a youth side respectively.

Bwale has also summoned two England based starlets who will be joining the team tonight in Kigali.

Wigan Athletics’ Mwiya Malumo and Lifumpa Mwandwe from Shrewsbury Town are in Lusaka processing their paperwork and should join the rest of the team tonight.

The team which is staying at The Mirror Hotel in Remera will hold their training session later at 16:30 at FERWAFA Turf.

After this weekend’s first leg match, the return leg will be held in Lusaka on May 19, 2018.

Winner both legs of the second round will advance to the last qualifying stage in July to play Sudan, Burundi or Ethiopia to decide who qualifies to next year’s Niger finals. (End)
