Col. Bienvenu Zokoue, Director General of CAR Police gives a souvenir to IGP Dan Munyuza.
Kigali: The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza, on Saturday, received his counterparts of Sudan, Lt. Gen. Adil Mohamed Ahmed Bashair, the Director General of Sudan Police Forces and Col. Bienvenu Zokoue, Director General of Central African Republic Police.
Lt. Gen. Adil is also the current chair of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO).
EAPCCO is a law enforcement body bringing together 14 countries in the region. Founded in 1998, the body was formed as a regional practical response to the need to join police effort against transnational and organized crimes.
The two Police Chiefs also attended the graduation of the 7th intake of the Police Senior Command and Staff Course (PSCSC) at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District, on Friday.
During the separate courtesy calls at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru, IGP Munyuza and his counterparts discussed matters related to cooperation as a major factor in responding to present-day security challenges, which are cross-border in nature and largely facilitated by technological advancements.
Lt. Gen. Adil commended the existing partnership especially in exchange of best practices and training in particular, and the Police chiefs agreed to continue exchanging such programmes.
Police officers from Sudan and CAR have attended the ‘Police Senior Command and Staff Course’ and other Police training programmes in Rwanda.
The Sudan Police Chief also thanked RNP’s active role in achieving the EAPCCO mandate.
Col. Zokoue, on his part, thanked the Government of Rwanda and RNP in particular for the support in restoring peace and security in CAR.
“The presence of Rwandan peacekeepers in CAR and the will of the Government of Rwanda to support the Government of CAR through the existing strong cooperation between our two Police institutions play an important role in confronting security challenges in Central African Republic.”
Rwandan started deploying Police peacekeepers under the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) in 2014. Currently, RNP maintains three Police contingents, each composed of 140 officers.
IGP Munyuza pledged continued cooperation in various matters of policing in fighting transnational and organized crimes like terrorism, drug and human trafficking, and cyber-crimes.
