Tens of thousands welcome President Kagame in Musanze, Nyabihu

Musanze, Busogo: Tens of thousands of residents from across Musanze and Nyabihu Districts on Thursday gathered at Busogo Stadium in Musanze to welcome President Kagame on the second day of his visit to the Northern and Western Province.

Addressing the crowd, President Kagame emphasised that the failure to solve some persisting issues was not caused by the lack of means, rather the leaders who have fallen short of delivering.

“The issues we are discussing here are not new and they are not insurmountable. We discuss them, we agree on how they will be solved but when you come back you find the problem has not been solved or has gotten worse. The first people who are responsible are leaders, it does not absolve citizens from their role in solving their problems but solutions start with leaders” President Kagame said.

President Kagame further called on residents to improve cleanliness and address malnutrition which “does not require us to wait for outside help”, rather “a question of mindset”.

On security, President Kagame reiterated that there is a line that cannot be crossed. “Our security is where we draw a red line, whoever crosses this line will face consequences. You should not allow anyone from inside or outside the country to jeopardize our security” President Kagame warned.

President Kagame concluded reminding residents to get actively involved in the country’s transformation as the government works hard to address existing challenges.

“We will keep working to address the challenges you face and look for the resources required to solve them. What I ask of you is your involvement and to work even harder.  My commitment to you is to hold accountable those who are not delivering. Next time I visit, you can hold me accountable for it” President Kagame concluded.

During the ongoing three-day visit, the Head of State meets with residents and interacts with opinion leaders from across the two provinces.

The visit is part of the President’s citizen outreach program where he meets residents countrywide to discuss and find solutions to developmental challenges while also holding leaders accountable. (End)
