The 9th Rwanda-Kenya Joint Permanent Commission convenes in Kigali

Rwanda is hosting the 9th session of the Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation between Rwanda and Kenya.

Both countries are meeting for three days to discuss areas of mutual interests to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Kenya and Rwanda have established a Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) as a guiding framework of bilateral relations.

Kenya and Rwanda established diplomatic relations in 1965, which was followed by the opening of Kenya High Commission in Kigali in 1986. However, the Mission was temporarily closed in 1994 due to the genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda but was re-opened in 2001.

Relations between Kenya and Rwanda are not only historical but are defined by the indispensable need to work together within the spirit of the EAC. (End)
