The nation is on move to construct resilient infrastructure projects countrywide. Efforts are also put in the maintenance and rebuilding of the aging ones to ensure the needs of the nation’s growing population are addressed. This was revealed by the Minister of infrastructure, Claver Gatete, during a one-day visit in the Southern province districts of Gisagara, Nyanza, Muhanga among others.
The field visit was conducted to inspect the progress of the infrastructure projects under construction and assess the status of the existing ones. In attendance were the leaders from the local authorities including the Governor Southern Province Hon. Alice Kayitesi, mayors and heads of the implementing agencies at the ministerial level.
Minister had also a site meeting with contractors and argued them a timely completion of projects and emphasized close and regular monitoring by all authorities to ensure efficiency and accountability to avoid unnecessary delays.
The goal is to deliver projects on time and always provide swift and effective responses impending our infrastructure. All industry stakeholders and government entities are called upon to continuously plan vividly, inspect, monitor, and evaluate structural systems for effective implementation; Minister added.
The projects that were inspected include; Gisagara Substation, an interconnection project between Rwanda and Burundi, an 80MW Hakan Peat to power project, Mark Cable Factory, and Shyogwe-Mayaga water project.
Hakan peat project is currently producing 35MW extracted from Unit one and expected to add to be producing at full capacity by the end of February 2022. This is a mega project of 80MW, where 10MW will be to run the plant and the remaining 70MW to be added on the national grid.
Mark Cables factory is a local facility that was put in place to solve the issues of importing electric cables and wires in the country. Once its production increases, the project will serve Rwandan market as well as the countries in the region.
Shyogwe-Mayaga water project is a crucial project that produces 2,500 cubic meters and has solved water shortages in the districts of Kamonyi, Muhanga, Ruhango and Nyanza.(End)
