Woman arrested over theft in Gisagara

Gisagara: Police in Gisagara is holding a 27-year-old woman for allegedly stealing over 150 liters of petroleum fuel and 15 liters of lubricant oil belonging to a chinese road construction company.

Police said the fuel and lubricant were recovered after the company filed a complaint of missing products and identified suspects.

Police immediately began a search and recovered the products from the home of one Claudine Mukamuhire, a 29 year old employee of the company.

According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonavanture Karekezi, the Police spokesperson for the Southern region, the suspects were apprehended on January 25, in Ndora sector.

“During the operation to recover the stolen products, after the management of Chinese Road Construction company lodged a complaint, we received information from a resident that the drums were hidden in the house of Mukamuhire,” CIP Karekezi said.

The products were returned to the construction firm.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Innocent Gasasira the western region police spokesperson thanked members of the public who freely shared information which led to the arrest and recovery of the items.

He said the suspect will be charged with theft and possession of stolen materials after investigations are completed.

Meanwhile, on January 26, Police in Rusizi district arrested one Felicien Ndikumana 35, for allegedly smuggling about 14 rolls of electrical power and 17 kilograms of second hand clothes.

The seized goods were handed over to revenue protection unit (RPU), a Rwanda National Police specialized unit charged of protecting government revenue. (End)
