Nigerian leader Goodluck Jonathan and DRC’s Joseph Kabila will be at the event
The Information Ministry Director General Ignatius Kabagambe told RNA Thursday that all the presidents who have confirmed to be here will be from the African continent. The government invited more than 30, he said.
The Presidents who will be here include: Pierre Nkurunziza (Burundi), Mwai Kibaki (Kenya), Francois Bozize (Central African Republic), Denis Sassou Nguesso (Congo-Brazzaville), Joseph Kabila (DR Congo), Blaise Compaoré (Burkina Faso), and Goodluck Jonathan (Nigeria).
Others are: Abedelaziz Bouteflika (Algeria), Yayi Boni (Benin), Prime Minister Meles Zenawi (Ethiopia), Ali Bongo Ondimba (Gabon), Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (Liberia), Faure Gnassingbé (Togo), Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika (Malawi), His Majesty King Mswati III (Swaziland), Rupiah Banda (Zambia)
Tanzanian PM Minzengo Pinda and Ugandan PM Prof. Apolo Nsibambi will represent their countries.
The Information Ministry says other top delegates who are expected include African Union Commission head Jean Ping. The World Bank will also be represented by the Country Manager.
The 21 members of the Presidential Advisory Council – who include top global business executives, will all be in Kigali for the event.
Officials say they are preparing to host some 100,000 people who will be in and outside the Amahoro National Stadium.
Though it can only have about 40,000, the Ministry of Information says there will be large screens outside relaying what will be happening inside.
Meanwhile the massive facelift of Kigali is going on day and night. New street lights have been installed on almost all the streets. Traffic lights have also been replaced.
