The Minister in charge of Emergency Management, Solange Kayisire, together with the Ambassador of Sweden in Rwanda Ms. Johanna Teague , different humanitarian Partners and Local Authorities were yesterday in Mahama Refugee Camp in Kirehe District(Eastern Province) to officiate the launch of Renewable Energy for Refugees project(RE4R) Phase II.
Before the launching ceremony, Minister Solange Kayisire, ambassador Johanna Teague, humanitarian stakeholders among other guests visited some of the beneficiaries to witness their transformational journey along this project.
“Changing wet firewood for clean cooking and getting street lights in the camp have changed our lives. We can now move at night so we can go to the bathrooms, visit the health care center and the businesses can work more hours”, participants from RE4R phase I said.
This project aims at providing people living in refugee camps and host communities with affordable, low-carbon and environmentally friendly energy for household, businesses and community uses that will accelerate their socio-economic transformation and turn camps into safer places to live. (End)
