Egypt and Rwanda sign Agreement to build Heart Disease Center in Masaka

Egypt and Rwanda have signed an Agreement to build a Center that treats cardiovascular diseases in Masaka in the District of Kicukiro.

The Agreement was signed by the Minister of Health, Dr Daniel Ngamije, and the Egyptian Ambassador to Rwanda, Ahmed Samy Mohamed El-Ansary.

“The first phase of the construction of this Foundation for Research and Care of Heart Diseases or Care Research Foundation-Rwanda (HCRF-R) will be completed in 18 months. The construction works will be financed by the HCRF-R Foundation, the Egyptian Agency for Partnership Development (EAPD) and the Rwandan Ministry of Health,” said Foundation Director Gisèle Gatariki.

According to Dr Evariste Ntaganda of the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC) in charge of cardiovascular disease care, the Foundation will also be a training center for specialists in the field, especially pediatricians.

“More than a thousand children in Rwanda are born with cardiovascular complications. Of these cases, at least 16 cases require surgery. This operation is costly. This Foundation will provide these services to children and adults seeking surgery, ”he said.

For the Ambassador of Egypt, Egypt is ready to support Rwanda in the Health Sector, especially from the construction of this Foundation which will support patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases.

“The Center will do the research and help doctors specialize,” he said.

For the Minister of Health, Dr Daniel Ngamije, Rwanda has an excellent vision in health care, and people will come from other countries to benefit from the care in this Center.

“The Foundation has an initial capacity to accommodate a thousand patients. She will take care of surgery and care for cardiovascular disease, especially for patients with limited resources. The Foundation will include research, laboratory, surgery, radiography, pharmacy and administration, ”he said. (End)
