FERWAFA, CAF & UEFA hold kick-off Meeting on League Dev’t Pilot Programme

After Rwanda was picked for the pilot project of the CAF & UEFA Assist League Development Programme earlier this month, a kick off meeting has been held between the FERWAFA, CAF and UEFA Project teams.

The CAF/UEFA Assist League Development Programme is expected to support member Associations to professionalise their league organization and club development as well as provide long-term development of football.

An online meeting held on Thursday, August 27, 2020 attracted all three parties to discuss the project timelines, proposed objectives and action plan.

The FERWAFA President Jean Damascene Sekamana joined the kick-off meeting, which included other Executive Committee members such as Legal Commissioner Gumisiriza Hillary, Marketing and Sponsoring Commissioner Rwakunda Quinta and Secretary General Uwayezu F. Regis.

Other members who joined the meeting include Head of Competitions Department, Bonnie Mugabe, who also doubles as the Project Manager of the Programme, Head of Marketing Department Ruboneza Prosper, Club Licensing Manager Biyakifato Peter Claver and the Legal Officer Jules Karangwa.

The Deputy General Secretary Anthony Baffoe led the CAF team, which was also composed, of the CAF Head of Competitions Khaled Nassar, CAF Project Manager Muhammed Feizal Sidat and Zone Project Manager Auka Gecheo while Clerc Marie, Kenny McLeod, Jos de Wit and Eva Pasquier constituted the UEFA Project team.

Launched in 2017, the UEFA Assist programme seeks to provide assistance to other confederations and their member associations in order to develop and strengthen football across the globe.

This is Rwanda’s third successful application for a UEFA Assist Programme following last year’s Leadership retreat and this year’s UEFA Bounce Back programme under which Rwanda has been able to unveil a post Covid-19 recovery plan dubbed as FERWAFA Bounce Back Programme.

The FERWAFA Bounce Back Programme is designed to help FERWAFA prepare for a return to work after the current Covid-19 crisis, mainly focusing on the following pillars namely; Technical Football Development, Governance and Football Administration, Commercial Matters as well as League and Clubs development.
