President Kagame has arrived in Maputo, Mozambique where he is welcomed by President Nyusi at the Office of the President for a tête-à-tête discussion followed by a bilateral meeting with both delegations.
President Kagame and President Nyusi meet with their delegations to discuss ongoing areas of cooperation between Rwanda and Mozambique.
On 20 July 2018, Rwanda and Mozambique signed five bilateral agreements to strengthen their partnership, particularly in the fields of air service, science and technology, higher education, professional training, exemption of visa requirements for diplomatic and service passport holders. A Joint Permanent Commission was thus created with the main objective of supervising the application of the texts.
On 20 October 2022, the Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vincent Biruta, and Arsénia Massingue, Minister of Interior of Mozambique, signed another Agreement on the exemption from visa requirements for holders of ordinary passports between Rwanda and Mozambique.
On the security level, Rwanda is helping Mozambique in its fight against Islamist rebels in the province of Cabo Delgado (North) by deploying there, since July 2021, 2,000 soldiers. With the support of Rwanda Security Forces, territories of strategic importance and rebel bases have been reconquered in recent months. (End)
