President Kagame called on leaders to put citizens first

At Intare Conference Arena in Rusororo, President Kagame closed a two-day cabinet retreat that discussed practical steps towards sustaining a collaborative and results-driven government.

The President emphasized the importance of having the courage to speak up and called on leaders to have the inner fire and motivation to put citizens first and deliver Rwanda’s ambitions.

The two-day retreat brought together cabinet members and other senior officials to focus on delivering Rwanda’s goals of socioeconomic transformation.

Commonly known as Umwiherero, meaning retreat, refers to a tradition in Rwandan culture whereby leaders would convene to reflect on issues affecting their communities.  The objective of these meetings was to identify solutions and commit to achieving them.

Today, Umwiherero has become a unique governance tool that allows Rwanda’s leaders to hold themselves accountable. It provides them an opportunity to reflect on the country’s progress and identify strategies to accelerate the delivery of national priorities while solving ongoing challenges. (End)
