President Kagame interacts with thousands in Burera as he begins three-day visit to Northern and western provinces

Kigali: President Kagame today interacted with thousands of residents in Burera District where he began his three-day visit to the Northern and Western Provinces.

Addressing Burera residents, President Kagame thanked them for their continued role in the country’s transformational journey and reminded them that no effort should be spared in accelerating the country’s progress.

“We know where our country has come from and where we are going, knowing our history serves as the foundation for this journey of transformation for every citizen. Our primary goal is for every citizen to play an integral part of this journey and to feel that their lives have been transformed” President Kagame said.

The Head of State however observed that leaders were to blame for poor delivery on the things that are within the country’s means and promised that they will be held accountable.

“There are still too many things that are within our means and abilities, that are still not done. Citizens are never the issue, it is the leaders who have fallen short of delivering. We have to hold leaders accountable from the highest to the lowest level. There are some things that cannot be tolerated because of the trust you have placed in us. Let us use the resources we have efficiently and achieve everything that is within our means” President Kagame said.

On security matters, President Kagame reiterated that Rwandans were committed to protect using whatever means it requires.

“Rwanda is not a small country or a small people that can be dictated to. We have our own goals to achieve. Our first aim is to achieve security through peaceful means. But we will not beg for it. If security needs to be achieved through other means, we have the means and we will use them ” President Kagame said.

President Kagame also had time to listen from residents who raised issues hampering their development efforts. They include issues related to potato seeds, milk processing factories, expropriation, among others. The President directed leaders to address those issues as soon as possible.

During the three-day visit, the Head of State will meet with thousands of residents and interact with opinion leaders from across the two provinces.

The visit is part of the President’s citizen outreach program where he meets residents countrywide to discuss and find solutions to developmental challenges while also holding holding leaders accountable. (End)
