President Kagame received ICRC President

This morning at Urugwiro Village, President Kagame received Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Patrick Youssef, the organization’s Regional Director for Africa, and their delegation for a discussion on ICRC’s work in Rwanda and beyond.

The ICRC has worked with the Rwandan authorities since 1963, and in 1990 it established a permanent delegation in Rwanda.

In Rwanda, ICRC works with the Rwandan authorities in political, military, law enforcement and academic circles to promote the national development and implementation of international humanitarian law (IHL).

ICRC also facilitates humanitarian diplomacy to enhance acceptance of the ICRC mandate and humanitarian operations in Rwanda and in the Great Lakes region. (End)
