Three Rwandan Correction peacekeepers serving under UNMISS decorated with UN Service Medals

United Nations Mission in South Sudan(UNMISS) has decorated 18 Correction peacekeepers with the UN Service Medal of Honor for their dedicated service in ensuring rule of law, among them three are Rwandan. 

The Rwandans who received medals of appreciation are SSP Hillary Sengabo, SSP Pelly Uwera Gakwaya and SSP Olive Mukantana. The event was held on 29 January 2024 in Malakal Upper Nile state. 

The event was presided over by Mr Abdul Arshad, the head of Corrections unit-Rule of Law and Security institutions Section in South Sudan. 

Mr Abdul Arshad appreciated Rwandan peacekeepers for their outstanding performance in the maintenance of peace and security in South Sudan, despite challenges encountered.

Rwanda started a peacekeeping mission in March 2023. They conducted patrols in different areas of South Sudan and community work activities to the benefit of citizens. (End)
